People often confuse steam with smoke. But it would be a challenge to think that street photos with steam were taken anywhere aside from New York City. This photo was taken during a street photography workshop in Hell’s Kitchen on a cold day.

People often comment about how I get photos of people that are so close to the camera. I don’t move in towards them, I stand in one place and they walk into the frame. People on the streets often don’t pay attention. This is an exercise that we do during street photography workshops.

In my workshops, we work with what’s there. Reflections are a lot of fun and when the light is right we work with them.

Yes, you can also shoot film in my workshops. What a challenge to have to wait to see what you captured! In these days of digital where you can see what you took instantly, there’s something to be said about the anticipation.

Chelsea is a very large area in Manhattan and I always find get photo opportunities there. You can book a private tour/workshop in Chelsea.

Street photography comes in many different styles. My private street photography workshops are based on your particular interests from straight ahead street photography to abstract street. Brighton Beach aka Little Odessa is a popular private workshop.

I’ve always liked the Manhattan Chinatown and in the 1980s I regularly went down there as a kind of escape from the Midtown madness. Chinatown is a favorite place for street photography and I schedule regular workshops there

Soho is a beautiful neighborhood with all the cast iron buildings. It’s also filled with fashionable people. I hold regular street photography workshops in Soho.

I schedule one group street photography workshop most weekends depending on my schedule. Private street photography workshops are planned throughout the year on weekdays and weekdays. All of my workshops are designed for photographers at all levels. And we always have fun.

Street photography mentoring means that I am able to provide value to experienced photographers as well as beginners. The beauty of street photography is that you can always grow and improve your photos. It is easy to get into a routine in your work and become dissatisfied as a result. I am able to provide this to a degree with my group workshops. But with private workshops it’s all about you.

Of all the neighborhoods in New York City for street photography, Midtown is a real favorite. So many people and so much diversity! I have a group workshop there about once a month.

I have always found Manhattan Chinatown to be a great escape into a very different neighborhood. There’s so much to discover in this city and I’m always inspired to shoot Chinatown. Always. I have a few group street photography workshops scheduled in Chinatown. And yes, we always have fun.

Yes, I provide photo tours for families with children and we always have fun. Here’s an excerpt from a review written in December 2021.

She made my kids (11 and 13) feel central to the experience and tailored the route to take in all our interests. This tour was great because we went to places that I just wouldn’t have considered: cultural icons, points of history, alleys of art, I could go on. We took amazing photos too. That afternoon is one I will remember.

We don’t often get the opportunity to get cool snow photos in New York City! But when we do, we definitely take advantage of it. You need a fast shutter speed to capture snow. This photo was taken during a street photography workshop in Midtown Manhattan.

Bicycles are another favorite subject to capture. Especially when there’s steam and snow. It’s like a trifecta! This was taken during a recent street photography workshop.
