Walking Photo Tours and Street Photography Workshops in NYC

News

Aside from this blog, Shoot New York City also has a newsletter which comes out twice a month that you can read at your leisure. I started writing it more than 5 years ago and it provides tips and information about street photography, and of course NYC! You can subscribe here.

Halloween Candids

I’m not a fan of shooting events and capturing photos that document it. But I do love capturing candid photos on Halloween with people in costume. It isn’t always easy to capture candid photos of events.

Shoot Film

Yes, you can also shoot film in my workshops. What a challenge to have to wait to see what you captured! In these days of digital where you can see what you took instantly, there’s something to be said about the anticipation.

City in Color - Photo Zine

City in Color is a series of photos in which color became a dominant consideration in the process. Color is intrinsic to the composition. Throughout the process, I narrowed my vision to isolate some of the many palettes that exist in the city.

City in Color is a photozine of 27 full color photographic images. It is a 36 page, saddle-stitched publication and it measures 5.8" x 8.26". It is limited to 100 copies which are signed and numbered. Don’t hesitate to buy one before they are sell out!

Always in Vogue

Very exciting news! If you happen to be in New York City, 9 of my street photos are plastered on the windows at 600 Madison Ave. They are really big. It’s like having an exhibit in a gallery, but way better. And you don’t need to worry about social distancing either. So here you can see a street photo that I took with one of my photos on the background.

Seeing with New Eyes

I often refer to a quote by Marcel Proust about seeing with new eyes. This is an important element in street photography for me and it is something that we work on in all of my group and private street photography workshops. Taking the time to observe what’s going on.

The real act of discovery consists not in finding new lands but in seeing with new eyes. Marcel Proust

Chinatown is a favorite

I’ve always liked the Manhattan Chinatown and in the 1980s I regularly went down there as a kind of escape from the Midtown madness. Chinatown is a favorite place for street photography and I schedule regular workshops there
